You own a warm coat. You wear it about six days a year. The rest of the winter it's too much — too warm the moment you step into a shop, too bulky to drive in, and it ends up over your arm rather than on your back.
This one is built for the other hundred days.
The padding is thin and spread evenly rather than packed into thick chambers, so the jacket stays close to the body. That alone would only make it a thinner coat. What makes it a warm one is that it closes at all three of the places heat actually leaves a jacket.
The hood pulls in on a drawcord at the back, so it stays on your head and off your face when the wind gets up. The cuffs are elasticated, which shuts the gap at the wrist that a plain sleeve leaves open. And the hem cinches on its own cord, so warm air stops escaping upward every time you move. A thin jacket that seals at hood, cuff and hem holds more heat than a thick one that vents at the bottom.
There's a zipped pocket on the left chest as well as the two hand pockets. It sits high enough to reach with a seatbelt on and it zips, so your phone stays in it when you bend down to a dog or a boot lid.
It is a light insulated jacket for cold, dry days — walking, standing on a touchline, the school run, the shops. It is not waterproof, and we'd rather say so here than have you find out in a downpour. If you need the rain kept off, we sell jackets that are built for it.
A word on sizing: this jacket is cut small. If you are between sizes, take the larger one. Full measurements in centimetres are in the details below — worth thirty seconds against a jacket you already own.
Warm without the bulk. Closed at hood, cuffs and hem.
