Ten times magnification is roughly as much as most people can hold steady by hand, and the 50mm objective lens is the part that keeps the view bright at that magnification. Divide the objective by the magnification and you get a 5mm exit pupil, which is the width of the beam of light leaving the eyepiece.

The body is moulded ABS with a knurled rubber grip panel, a manual focus ring and a twist-down eyecup. A threaded socket in the base takes the supplied tripod, and the spring clamp holds a handset between 58mm and 80mm wide over the eyepiece.
